Deliver Quality Service for Five Generations

The Derrick Company is a family owned and operated business specializing in metal heat treating, abrasive blasting and industrial painting, located in Cincinnati, Ohio. The company’s roots trace back to the early 1920s, when it began as the Frank J. Derrick Brick Manufacturing Company.

Derrick bricks were used in numerous construction projects throughout the region, including the tri-state area’s most prominent high-rise development of the time – Cincinnati’s Carew Tower. The company incorporated heat treating in 1943, responding to the U.S. government’s need for long furnaces to process tank tread components during World War II.

Harry Derrick Sr. and his team engineered a way to convert the company’s brick kilns into heat-treating furnaces, successfully meeting the government’s specifications. The method they developed became a national standard for heat treating this type of material. In recognition of their innovation and contribution to the war effort, the U.S. government held a public ceremony in Cincinnati, awarding each member of the Derrick Company the prestigious Army-Navy “E” Award.

Today, Derrick Company continues its legacy of service, proudly supporting the U.S. military. For more than 30 years, the company has worked on components for the Arleigh Burke class of naval destroyers and is currently involved in the production of parts for armored vehicles deployed worldwide. Derrick Company proudly serves many other industries as well, including aerospace, heavy manufacturing, steel fabrication, and more.

FAMILY OWNED

Derrick Company is presently owned and operated by Jason Schmid, 5th generation son to Kathie and Gary Schmid. Jason proudly continues the family legacy with passion and purpose, working alongside his wife and daughter, the sixth generation. Together, they’re carrying on a tradition with the same dedication, care, and community spirit that’s been a part of Derrick Company from the very beginning.
